8world | Fertility Rate in Singapore

📍 Singapore
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, once said that Singapore is heading toward “extinction,” with a fertility rate of just 0.87. Faced with this reality, should this generation still choose to have children?
Some, like Lo Hok Him, choose not to: “I don’t want my child to come into this world and suffer.” Others, like Michael See Chern Siong, have gone the opposite way—he now has eight children: “There was a time when I couldn’t even have one.”
Miscarriages, surgeries, financial pressure… When having a child is no longer just a choice, but a cost—what would you decide? Do you avoid it for fear your child might suffer? Or believe that life also brings joy? Or perhaps, that in the end—love is the answer?
